The Charter: Recent Key Criminal Cases

For more than 135 years, the Toronto Lawyers' Association, located within the Courthouse Library, has represented the interests of lawyers practising in the City of Toronto. The association was founded to support its members in three key areas: Knowledge, Advocacy, and Community. To uphold these pillars, the association offers a year-round mix of online and in-person education programs for lawyers, hosts both free and paid events to foster in-person networking, and submits advocacy pieces on behalf of its members to the Ontario bench and bar, all levels of government, and the broader public.

Kim Schofield is recognized as the country’s top litigation expert in criminal law. Ms. Schofield’s practice has a particular emphasis on defending individuals charged with serious drug and firearm related charges, along with homicide, aggravated assault and a wide range of other offences. In addition, Ms. Schofield specializes in large-scale project cases, with a particular emphasis on challenging wire tape authorizations.

Lawyers Milena Celap and Pamela Larmondin have extensive practical experience in the small claims court system and in presenting complex information in a highly accessible, user-friendly format.

Ministry of the Attorney General

The Honourable David Lametti, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, announced Aug. 6, the appointment of alumnus R. Philip Campbell (LLB 1982), a Judge of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario. Campbell was raised in the Atlantic Provinces. He graduated from Mount Allison University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1979 and from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law in 1982. He was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1984.
