Practical Considerations for Practitioners

The Toronto Lawyers Association (TLA) brings you this panel presentation. Join the Honourable Justice Cory Gilmore, Sarah Engel, Kimberly Whaley, and Sarah Boulby, as they examine challenging crossover issues between family law and estates.
The moderator, Sarah Boulby, queries the panel on complications that arise in a number of fact pattern scenarios where family and estates law intersect. The panelists discuss available claims for a surviving spouse under the Family Law Act (FLA) and the Succession Law Reform Act (SLRA), the enforcement of domestic contracts and family court orders on death, and how to prevent impediments when calculating settlement costs. All of this and more is covered in this informative TLA seminar.

Toronto Lawyers Association
For more than 135 years, the Toronto Lawyers' Association, located within the Courthouse Library, has represented the interests of lawyers practising in the City of Toronto. The association was founded to support its members in three key areas: Knowledge, Advocacy, and Community. To uphold these pillars, the association offers a year-round mix of online and in-person education programs for lawyers, hosts both free and paid events to foster in-person networking, and submits advocacy pieces on behalf of its members to the Ontario bench and bar, all levels of government, and the broader public.
